2017 – Cigarette In My Tea Cup

So, it seems that these music mixes are going to come more on an every-other year basis instead of yearly. That’s entirely due to time. Not just the time in making the mix and the packaging, but the time to find the new music. I wasn’t sure I was going to make one this year and the music I had set aside over the past two years for a mix seemed a little anemic to me… I like to start with about twice the number of songs I need and then cut things that don’t seem to be working in the mix. Sometimes that’s an easy choice, and sometimes it’s not because there a songs I really like but just can’t seem to make work. Often these songs show up in other years. (Kick Back from 2015’s Desperate Poetry is a good example).

I think this year I only cut two songs from the list to end up with this mix. I was surprised at how quickly this one fell into place.

XTC returns! Well, not really XTC, but Partridge was the main songwriter for the band, and this song is from one of his many post band releases of demo and outtake recordings. A catchy little tune that seems apropos today.

Here’s a throwback song from an album I really enjoyed when it came out (and the last really good album Waters made). Production-wise it sounds a little dated, but I think it’s still a great song and it’s message is still relevant.
